The Athy Heritage Centre-Museum has partnered with the world renowned website - www.antarctic-circle.org to host in Ireland the SouthPole-Sium, a celebration of all things Antarctic. Athy will host visitors from all over the world as part of the SouthPole-Sium on Sunday the 9th June.
Events in Athy on the 9th June will include -
- A visit to the Birthplace of Shackleton
- Lunch in the Dining Room of Kilkea Castle
- Lectures, presentations on Antarctic Matters with display of unique Shackleton material in the Museum.
For attendees it presents a unique chance to visit Shackleton's birthplace and lunch in the castle as neither are generally accessible to the public.
There are a limited number of places available which will be allocated on 'first come first serve basis'.
The all in cost of €40 includes the bus from Athy to Kilkea and back and lunch in the castle. Refreshments will also be served in the Museum.
The event will run from 11am-5pm
