Kildare > Emigrants Corner > Broughall of Tuckmill

Tuckmill

Dear Kildare folk,

I want to come to Kildare from Australia to see the site of Tuckmill, the property from whence my great great grandmother, Kate Josephine Broughall emigrated to Australia. Can you tell me if it is at Straffan? And if there is anything left to see? Are there people who would know its history and would be able to talk to me about it?

I would also like to see any other places associated with the Broughall family. Is there a church that the Broughalls would have attended? It is a very emotional pilgrimage for me, as Kate emigrated, as many people did after the potato famine, following the splitting of her family and great monetary hardship. She then became estranged from her family (even the two siblings she had emigrated with) because she married a Protestant (a German Lutheran) in Australia.
