THE LONGEST STONE
The longest stone ever is stated to be situated in the grounds of the St. Wolstan’s Castle, a short distance from Celbridge. The stone which is standing up beside the river is stated to have been taken out of the Liffey at the spot where it now stands, by the predecessors of the late Colonel Cane. It is about 20 ft. long, and stands upright in its present position, enclosed by steel bands, and over-looks the most beautiful scenery for which the district is noted. The following old saying it is stated had its origin at this place: “The Tallest stone, the Longest Bone and the Deepest Water ever known.”
