Novel Idea

Droichead Nua Committee for the Care of the Elderly stuck on a novel idea to raise funds for its very laudable objective. On the suggestion of a member the group is producing 10,000 Christmas cards with a local motif. All local traders have a supply and the youth clubs, St. Conleth’s and “Teens”, are co-operating in the sale of the cards. As committee secretary Captain Dan Kennedy points out, this is a very suitable way of involving youth in the work of helping the elderly; the response by the members of the youth clubs indicates that they are not lacking in consideration for the older people and indeed may justly be regarded as having set a headline for the rest of the county.

The artist for the Christmas card scene is Mrs. Brownie Mansfield, of Barrettstown House. The background to the card is a local setting which includes the Liffey Bridge at Droichead Nua, with swans, rabbit, robin and donkey.
