The spectacular landscape of the Curragh of Kildare is long famed in story and song but the management of the Curragh had proven difficult with the arrival of the permanent military barracks in the 1850s. A commission was established in 1865 which resulted in the Curragh Acts of 1868 and 1870, legislation which was to govern the Curragh for almost a century.
