Cumann na mBan member dies

Naas lost one of its oldest residents on Sunday week with the death in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Athy, of Mrs. Brigid (Delia) Daly, 13 St. Brigid’s Terrace. She was 83.

Her husband, William, who predeceased her by about four years, had been a Comdt. in the Free State Army and in later years caretaker of Devoy Barracks, Naas. He had also been a member of Naas District Council where he represented Labour. Mrs. Daly was also in the War of Independence for she was a member of Cumann na mBan.

At her interment in St. Corban’s Cemetery, Naas, following Requiem Mass in the Church of Our Lady and St. David, her coffin was draped in the tri-colour and had a guard of honour of old I.R.A. members.

Mrs. Daly, who was a native of Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath, is survived by her brothers, Mr. Patrick Coyne, Barhead, Scotland, and Mr. Garret Coyne, Phibsboro, Dublin; sisters, Miss Mary Coyne, Barhead, Scotland, and Mrs. Katie Tyrrell, Mullingar; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
