Co. Kildare R.I.C. BARRACKS CLOSED

The first quarter of 1920 saw an increase in attacks on R.I.C. Barracks across Ireland, including in County Kildare. This resulted in the closure of several R.I.C. Barracks, particularly those in more rural areas that were more difficult to defend. The report below appeared in the Nationalist & Leinster Times of 13th March 1920. 

Co. Kildare R.I.C. Barracks Closed

Maynooth R.I.C. Barracks has been closed. Celbridge will in future be a headquarters stating. Carbury is also closed and the men transferred to Robertstown. On Monday last Rathangan Barrack was closed, Sergeant Birch and five constables being transferred to Monasterevan. The police hut at Ballinonlert, between Rathangan and Clonbullogue is also closed. Castledermot station was closed on Tuesday evening.
