Introduction
This is a resource for teachers, parents and of course the children
that are involved with English in primary schools in County Kildare,
Ireland. All submissions and suggestions for this section of the
site are most welcome.
The English curriculum is structured to offer children a total
language experience.
It includes:
Oral Language activity includes encouraging Talk and
Discussion, developing children's ability to use language
socially, and stimulating their imagination.

Reading involves using a wide variety of texts. Children
read for pleasure and information, they learn to locate and
use books for a variety of purposes and develop higher comprehension
skills.

Writing encourages children to write clearly and expressively.
Children write for a variety of purposes, for different audiences
and in a range of genres. Through drafting, editing and redrafting
they develop the ability to self-correct their own writing.
The conventions of grammar, spelling and punctuation are emphasised.
