Kildare Culture Night & Weekend 2016

Culture Night in county Kildare extends to become a weekend of cultural events!

On Friday 16th September 2016 and over the weekend, more than 90 free events will take place countywide.

Our ambassador, RTE broadcaster Brenda Donohue said: 'I was honoured to be invited to be an ambassador for Culture Night Kildare.  I come from a family who are immersed in the arts and cultural community in the county.  I look forward to reacquainting myself with familiar places and projects, but also to discovering more of the treasures in this culture-rich county'.

Something For Everyone

From history to music, art and design, including cinema, nature, food and literature, there will be something to suit every taste and every age. Cultural organisations and venues across the County will open to the public for a night of free entertainment and discovery.

For instance you can celebrate 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl dressing up as and drawing your favourite character and enjoy a walk in one of the magnificent parks and gardens of our county: Larchill in Kilcock, the Lodge Park Walled Garden in Straffan, Coolcarrigan and De Burghs in Naas or the Japanese Gardens in Kildare town.

Music Lovers

If you are a music-lover there will be plenty of concerts to choose from: an organ recital at Maynooth College’s Chapel, Lunchtime Jazz at Urban Kitchen in Naas, Route 66 Big Band at Castletown and the Millicent singers in Westgrove Hotel, just to mention some. Moreover the 1st German Electrophonic Orchestra will perform ‘Girls & Stations’ in Kildare and Newbridge stations: meet this group of German and Irish musicians called Clara in their journey to Clara.

Variety of Events

The variety of events continues with storytelling, poetry, film, dance, talks and exhibitions. Discover the stories written by school children from the local area in the 1930’s at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre or be part of the Troubadour Poet Experience in Naas.  You can visit Master Craftsman Garvan de Bruir’s Open Workshop or give it a try and make your own artwork at Crookstown Craft Village and Croi Anu Creative Centre in Moone.

A special Alfred Hitchcock night will attend you at Athy College and the county libraries have planned a great selection of events, workshops and other activities. Not to be missed is one of the ‘Kildare Notebook Project’ workshops; taking place in Athy, Sallins and Celbridge, they will give you the opportunity to create your own master piece and will be led by visual artists Vera Mc Evoy, Sharon Fidgeon  or writer John Mac Kenna.
