AES, Bord na Móna Secures Kildare County Council Waste Management Contract

AES, Bord na Móna Secures Kildare County Council Waste Management Contract

Today, 25th July 2011, Kildare County Council (KCC) announces that following a competitive sales process, AES, Bord na Móna’s Resource Recovery company, has secured the contract to provide waste and recycling bin collection services to the households across the county currently serviced by KCC.

All services will continue to be operated by KCC until the 19th August 2011 and will transfer to AES on the 22nd August 2011. There will be no change to the current pricing structure and collection schedules for existing KCC customers will remain the same. Key features of this new arrangement include:

Customers who have already paid KCC for their service charge until December 2011 will continue to receive service from AES at no additional service charge

Customers in receipt of a waiver from KCC will continue to have their bins accepted on the same basis as before until December 2011. AES is committed to maintaining the existing waiver offering to existing customers until December 2012, after which AES intends to offer a discounted service charge to these customers.

Bin tags already purchased will continue to be accepted by AES and bin tags will continue to be available from the same retail outlets. AES is committed to absorbing the initial impact of proposed Government land-fill levy increases (expected from September ’11 onwards) and therefore there will be no price changes for tags up until June 2012

Recycling bins will continue to be accepted by AES from customers where the service charge has been paid, or waived, free of charge

AES will continue to honor all existing arrangements with local charities, community groups and other voluntary groups until December 2011, and will provide service free of service charges to these organizations to December 2012. AES will be contacting these customers in the coming weeks to agree longer-term arrangements.

Securing this new contract means that AES expects to recruit up to 25 additional staff in customer service and service provision from August 2011 onwards.

Speaking on behalf of Kildare County Council Joe Boland stated “Following a detailed review of our household waste management services, we determined that selling this business was the best option to enable us reduce costs and redeploy resources more effectively. AES was chosen to take over the business following a competitive sales process and we are confident that they have the track record and business experience to continue to provide Kildare customers with a competitively priced, reliable and environmentally beneficial service.”

Commenting on the successful outcome for AES, Tom Walsh, Director of Resource Recovery, Bord na Móna, said “We are delighted to have been successful in this competitive process and to reinforce our presence here in Kildare. Bord na Móna has a long and proud association with the area and since 2002, AES with its headquarters in Naas, has been providing a high quality service to thousands of customers in the county. Our ambition is to innovatively build on the current KCC service, primarily by introducing further options for waste segregation and more advanced customer account services”
