Leixlip Community Library has recently expanded their public access information technology to include assistive technology for people with disabilities in the community.
The equipment now available in the library was provided both by Kildare County Council and the Department of the Environment and Local Government through the National Disability Strategy Funding. As part of Kildare Library Service’s continued commitment to providing access to, and participation in all library services, all of the equipment purchased was recommended by the National Disability Authority and in consultation with the local disability sector and library users with disabilities.
The assistive technology includes:
- Kurzweil 1000 and 3000 software
- Jaws software
- Magic software
- Plustek Optic Book Scanner
- Touch Screen Monitor
- CCtv Magnifier
- Big Keys Keyboards
- 42" Plasma Touch Screen
- Mobile Hearing Loop for events and meetings
- Induction Loop at the desk
The staff of Leixlip Library would also like to offer an open invitation to all disability groups and individuals with disabilities in Kildare to visit the library.
