Mondello Superbike Championship Rounds 4 and 5

The Mondello Superbike Championship returns to the Co. Kildare circuit this Sunday for Rounds four and five of the eleven race, four event championship.

The Fingal Motor Club will be in charge for this second event of the season and a strong line-up has been attracted once again in the main Superbike and Supersport classes once again. Brian McCormack and Marshal Neil were the class of the field at the first event and both are back for this Sunday's races with Neil determined to break McCormack's dominance which has seen him take three wins from the three races run so far. In the Cup class Martin Murphy leads the way while also sitting a very credible seventh in the overall standings.

The Supersport class has seen similar dominance with top spot after event one being taken by relative newcomer Glen Irwin. The impressive teenager won all three Supersport races at the May event with Jonny Buckley and Gary Jeffers his nearest challengers. The majority of the huge Supersport entry at the first event was made up of Cup Class riders and the best of these was Austen Wilson who takes a slim championship lead over Dermot Deegan into round 4. Wilson and Deegan also sit together in the overall points in ninth and tenth place.

Alongside the feature Superbike and Supersport classes the remainder of the programme will be made up of Two Strokes, Pre '97, Lightweight Supersport, Supertwins and Sidecars. Each class will race twice with both races counting for championship points. Following the first round of races for each class the line-up for the grand final will be decided with the fastest thirty riders overall getting the chance to race for Prize money in the main event. At Round one it was McCormack who took the top prize of €1,500 with Neil once again coming home second by the tiny margin of less than a tenth of a second.

Sunday's event will once again see the main races concentrated between 14:00 and 16:00 with the Superbike Supersport and Grand Final featuring pre race grid interviews and post race podium presentations. Admission for Sunday's event is €15.00 but Individual spectators can get a €5.00 discount of the normal ticket price by visiting the special offers page of the Mondello Park web site. A rider and passenger arriving on a bike together will be admitted for just €20.00 while a car and up to four passengers can gain admission for €25.00. As always under 16's will be admitted free of charge and all ticket prices include a complimentary event programme. For further information see www.mondellopark.ie
