Championship Car Races at Mondello Park

Mondello Car races This coming weekend will see one of the busiest ever opening car races of the season at Mondello Park with sufficient races scheduled to expand the programme to a day and a half. The Irish Motor Racing Club will be in charge of an event which will span Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday Afternoon set aside for qualifying and Sunday's timetable filled up entirely with racing.

The levels of competitor participation look set to rise in 2012 with more classes reporting increased grid sizes and a greater number of championships looking for spaces on the Mondello Park schedule. The effect of this is the expansion of what should have been a single day season opener into one and a half day's racing.

Saturday afternoon will now see all classes complete their qualifying sessions for Sunday's race day, which will have a very busy programme of sixteen races.

The event will have a varied mixture of Single Seater, Saloon and Sportscar races ranging from the superfast Formula Libre cars to the Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship for fourteen to sixteen year old's. All of the classes will race twice apart from the Formula Sheane and Formula Vee championships which will both have a single race.

Along with the 'Sheanes' and 'Vees' the programme will be made up of the best of Irish Saloon racing with the Irish Touring Car Championship, Fiat Abarth Racing and Historic Cars all on the programme. Sportscar racing fans will have the Global Lights, Legends, Strykers and Ginetta Junior's to look forward to while every race fans favourite, the spectacular Formula Libre single seaters will round out the action.

Admission to the event is free on Saturday with Sunday's race day admission set at just €10 for adults with under 16's admitted free. All admission includes a complimentary event programme.
