Biodiversity Week at The Bog of Allen Nature Centre

The Bog of Allen Nature Centre will be holding a number of events throughout Biodiveristy Week, 17th-24th May 2009

The events start on Monday 18th when the Bog of Allen Nature Centre will be offering free entry into the peatland museum and wildlife gardens. If you want to learn a little about the wet, wild & wonderful bogs of Ireland come along between 10am-4pm. 

On Tuesday 19th at 7pm the centre will be the venue for the first in a series of lectures running throughout the summer months on Kildares Natural Heritage.  The talk will be followed by a guided walk of Lodge bog. 

Sunday 24th May the centre will hold its Biodiversity Show.  This event is free to everyone and all are welcome to attend. 



  • Jesmond Harding, a butterfly expert will give a talk on Irish butterflies and lead a walk to Lullymore West where participants can find the rare Marsh Fritillary butterfly breeding. 

  • A guided tour of the wildlife gardens at the centre will give gardeners tips on how to garden with wildife in mind. 

  • Especially for young visitors an interactive challenge will be available all day where children can identify freshwater invertebrates & learn the lifecycle of the common frog to name two of the activities. 

  • Also on display will be the artwork of local school children who have drawn and painted Kildare’s Widlife.
