After achieving record crowds of 208,000 for the National Ploughing Championships this week in Kilkenny, The National Ploughing Association announced that the 2009 event will take place near Athy.
Athy was the venue for the first championships, held in 1931, with 40 entries. Today over 300 competitors, including international visitors, take the ploughing challenge.
