Radio Control Cars is a great hobby, Why, Motor Racing holds a fascination for many people because of its combination of competitive driving skill and the ongoing technology which is necessary to design a race winning car. Very few of us will ever get the chance to be a race driver but the same thrills and satisfaction can be obtained from radio controlled model car racing with none of the risks and at a cost that people can afford.

Lucan Model Car Club has started its new outdoor racing season as its new venue at the Setanta House Hotel in Celbridge We race every Sunday afternoon from 1.30 to 5.30 .We cater for two types of model cars, first we have the 1/10 scale touring/rally car which races on tarmac. The second one is the 1/28 scale Mini Z type. One of these would fit in the palm of your hand. This type race on a special purpose made track. Although they are small in size they have all the features of the bigger ones.

The club is very grateful to Arthur McDaniel and the Setanta House Hotel for the facilities afforded to us.

The club is looking for new members so why not come along any Sunday and see what we have to offer. There is no age limit to our sport – from 8 to 80 all welcome male or female.

Our race day consists of four rounds of qualifying. This determines where you start in the final at the end of the day. All our races are timed by computer. We have our own track markers with which we lay a track each day. We change the layout of our track each week. We have six cars racing on the track at a time. In the qualifying races they race against the clock, then for the final they race against each other. Points are awarded depending on your finishing position. These points go towards the club championship. Trophies are given at the end of the year.

Our 1/10 scale cars are powered by special re chargeable batteries, so they are pollution free. This are charged from a 12 Volt car battery. Our model cars come in two forms, they can be bought ready to race or in kit form where they are built from scratch.

The Mini Z is a relatively inexpensive form of model car racing. For about 150 euro you get your car and radio gear, all you need then is a few AA batteries and you are ready to race. These cars would be ideal for somebody starting in model cars for the first time.

Further details of all the club activities can be had from Brendan Lawlor at 087-2512422 or email brendan@irishpowerandprocess.com
