Scubathon 2015 – 24 Hour Scuba Diving

by lwhelan on July 21, 2015

Scubathon Update: The annual Diveathon went ahead despite the inclement weather forecast. Rather than cancel we opted for a condensed version with all dives completed by 9:30pm Saturday evening, just before the weather broke. There was a great turn out with divers from Naas, Hook and Kilkenny Sub-Aqua Clubs taking part in what was some great diving and craic. Special thanks to Hook SAC for their now famous hospitality.

The event kicked off at 11am with Pavel and Michael O’Mahony first in the water and were followed at 35 x minute intervals by divers from Naas, Hook and Kilkenny for dive times up to one hour. Divers were rewarded with excellent visibility, tons of life and clear blue skies. Hook SAC kindly gave us use of their club house facilities where we had camping and a BBQ. Many thanks to all club members who helped to make this a very successful social diving event once again.

This weekend is the weekend that we have all been waiting for – a weekend of great shore diving and craic with our friends from Hook SAC. The event kicks of at midday on Saturday with continues diving in relays until midday on Sunday.

Most of the Naas SAC divers will be camping out on the peninsula, staying close to the action and craic.

This year all participants will complete three x 45 minute dives over the 24 hour period thus giving everyone adequate rest and time to enjoy the weekends diving. Pavel is in charge of the BBQ which will be providing food for the hungry divers from Saturday evening.
