Monasterevin Historical Society continues its winter lecture series on Thursday 18 January at 8.30pm in the Council Hall, Main Street.

County Kildare local historian Liam Kenny returns with a talk entitled ‘Bullets and Ballots’, covering the 1916-1921 period as the Monasterevin ascendancy lost power in the local council elections to Sinn Féin in a political struggle repeated all over the country at the birth of the nation.

On Thursday 15 February, Brian McCabe tells how ‘It started with a banner’, the story of Sean Connolly, who led the attack on Dublin Castle in Easter 1916. The IRA officer was descended from a Monasterevin family and had a long-lasting effect on Kildare politics. Admission is free and all are welcome.
