Local Developments

Fionnuala Dukes M.C.C sends informs us of some developments for the local area from the minutes of the Kildare Area Meeting of 7 June.
Motion from Cllr. Dukes; "that Kildare County Council take the necessary steps to arrange for the erection of a bus shelter in Monasterevin and that as Bus Eireann says they do not provide bus shelters as the necessary finance is not available, that Kildare County Council liaise with Adshel who have in the past erected bus shelters."
The members were informed that this matter had been brought to the attention of Adshel by the area engineer as requested by the committee. The matter itself is a commercial matter as Bus Eireann do not provide bus shelters. The Roads Department outlined another possibility which would be to apply for DTO (Dublin Transportation Office) funding for the provision of a series of bus shelters on that route. Resolved, that the Roads Department apply for DTO funding.
Another motion from Cllr. Dukes was that Kildare County Council take action, if necessary under the Derelict Sites Act, or any other appropriate act, to improve the appearance of the CYMS Hall in Monasterevin. The committee was informed that the building was inspected by the Senior Executive Engineer to see if it could be dealt with under the Derelict Aites Act. It was reported that the building itself was not in a ruinious or dangerous condition nor was it littered. The windows were boarded securely but some of the facade nameplate was missing some letters. It seems that the duty of care is currently with the Bishop of the Diocese of Kildare.
Resolved, that Kildare County County write to the Bishop of the Diocese of Kildare to try and get more information on who is actually responsible for the upkeep of the building.
