under 17 Kynog United V Sallins

Saturday 20th November

U17 Premier Division

Kynog United 8
Sallins Celtic 1

Kynog United produced an excellent performance last Saturday to secure the points against a gallant Sallins team. The home team opened the scoring after 5 minutes when a Jason Ryan effort struck the crossbar and Donal McGrath finished off the rebound. They doubled their advantage on 15 minutes when a Jason Ryan pass found Gavin Crowe whose shot across the keeper found the bottom corner of the net. Sallins responded with a good break down the left and a shot by Robbie Coughlan that struck the bar before being cleared. Kynog broke away and Daniel Byrne making his home debut cut inside two defenders and his left foot shot beat the keeper to increase Kynogs advantage. Both of the home teams full backs were getting forward at every opportunity with Ciaron Baselmans and Eoin Quinlan prominent. Shortly before half time a Daniel Byrne pass found Eoin Quinlan whose shot beat the Sallins keeper. The second half began with Sallins more competitive all over the pitch and Gary Mahon winning a lot of ball in midfield. Just as the visitors were getting back in the game Kynog scored the goal of the game when Ciaron Baselmans overlapped and got on the end of a Gavin Crowe pass and crossed for Donal McGrath to slot home. The same player completed his hat-trick in the 55th minute before Sallins deservedly scored when Sean Curley converted a penalty. For a spell the visitors threatened to reduce the arrears further but the home defence marshalled by Stephen Byrne and Eoin O Reilly remained compact. In the 75th minute a Shane Merriman pass found Evan Treacy who found the back of the net before a fierce Shane Merriman shot in the closing minutes went in off the upright to complete the days scoring. The visitors were best served by Sean Curley, Robbie Coughlan and Gary Mahon while the whole Kynog team can be proud of their display.
