      ATHY TOWN          6

The visitors started the brighter with Ross Maher in the Kynog goal being kept busy in the opening minutes and were rewarded when  Mick Walsh slotted home from close range after good work by Sean Doyle. Athy were getting on top in midfield and were being denied by some excellent defending by Eoin O Reilly and Sean Flynn. They duly doubled their advantage in the 16th minute following a corner that saw Tom Redmond rise highest to head home. Donal McGrath was increasingly causing problems for the Athy defence and his persistence paid off when Kynog were awarded an indirect free kick in the 28th minute. The ball was played to Alan Kirwan who found the corner of the net to reduce the arrears. The home team matched their opponents for the next 15 minutes with Danny Boyle excelling on the left wing. Athy upped their game to another level shortly before half time with Nathan Robinson scoring twice and Aaron Meade hittting the target. The home team made changes at half time but it was Athy who hit the back of the net through Stefan Flynn in the 48th minute. At this point Kynog responded with a fine individual goal from Divina Ntim. This goal gave renewed hope to Kynog and when Shane Merriman fed the ball through for Alan Kirwan his shot beat Shane Foley and lodged in the corner of the goal. A few minutes later the same player was denied a hat-trick by an excellent save by Shane Foley. The warm weather was taking its toll as players tired. Athy Town ran out deserving winners while the hosts can take heart from the way they battled back in the second half.
