Newbridge Town win 4 2 on penalties.

Newbridge Town advanced to the next round of the cup following a hard fought victory after penalties in Kynog Park last Saturday. The home team started the better with both Stephen Byrne and Donal McGrath narrowly shooting wide . The visitors started to get a grip in midfield and took the lead in the 24th minute following a Michael Fitzgerald cross the ball broke for Wayne Foy who volleyed home. Kynog responded with an Adrian Moran pass which released Martin Baneham whose shot across the Newbridge goal glanced the upright. The honest endeavour and technical ability of the home team all over the pitch was restricting Newbridge in their attacking  opportunities. The second half found Kynog on the attack and a Jason Ryan pass almost found Donal McGrath who was denied by David Murphy in the Newbridge goal. The equaliser arrived in the 52nd minute when Donal McGrath found Martin Baneham who found the bottom corner of the net. The game was now in the balance and Newbridge were awarded a penalty in the 59th minute when Ian Mulligan was fouled and Keith Egan despatched the resulting penalty. However this Kynog team once again displayed the spirit that exists within the squad when Dale Percival flicked the ball on for Martin Baneham to score his second. Both Eamon Cox and Ciaron Baselmans were giving tremendous displays in the full back positions pushing forward at every opportunity. The game went into extra time as both teams went in search of a winner but chances were limited as both defences showed great resolve. As a result the game went to penalties with Newbridge winning 4 2 on spot kicks. On the day the result could have gone either way with every one of the Kynog players excelling.
