Under 9 Kynog United V Kilcullen

Kynog Utd 4 – 2 Kilcullen

Kynog and Kilcullen’s U9s served up an excellent match on Saturday morning in difficult conditions. Kynog’s pitch held up well under the week’s heavy rain, and both teams played some nice football to keep the large crowd entertained. Kynog were quick off the mark, and when Josh Harris won the ball in midfield, he found Joshua Lee who drove the ball high into the Kilcullen net to give his team the lead. Almost immediately, Kilcullen, driven on by Liam Horan, got themselves level as Stephen Halford pounced on a loose ball in the box to score with a powerful shot. With the game going end to end, it was Kynog next on the scoresheet, as Shane O’Connor played in Joshua Lee to roll the all home. Lee returned the favour by finding O’Connor who rounded the keeper to slide the ball home and give Kynog a 3-1 lead at half-time.

Kynog extended their lead as Ciaran Casey played a delightful ball for Shane O’Connor to slide home. Casey almost extended the Kynog lead but a brave save from Kilcullen keeper Aaron Kennedy kept Kilcullen in the game. This seemed to inspire the Kilcullen team and Justin Reilly in the Kynog defence had to be at his best to keep Kilcullen out. They were not to be denied though, and Cormac Stopes reduced the deficit with a powerful strike. He almost scored again, and only an excellent save from Michael Cummins in the Kynog goal kept him out to leave Kynog the victors.
