Athy Town     2

Athy were the visiting Team to Kynog Park on Thursday evening in what turned out to be a cracking game played by both fully committee teams. From the first kick of the ball Athy went on the attack with Aaron Meade taking control of the midfield. Cian Gilligan in the Kynog goal had to be alert and with some fine defending by Jack Kenny and Adrian Moran which kept the visitors at bay .With play going from end to end Luke Doyle in the Athy goal was tested in the early stages of the game with Conor staines and Donal McGrath both having chances. The deadlock was broken when David Hyland shot beat Cian Gilligan just before half time. The game resumed with both teams upping their game. Kynog were now winning more in midfield with Jack Kenny and Shane Merriman feeding the Kynog forwards. Mark Robinson and Gary Walsh were on hand as the pressure increased with the home side going close. Athy doubled their scoring with Karl Foley from a free kick. The Kynog lads never gave up and their hard work paid off when a loose ball from a scramble in front of the Athy goal was calmly delivered to Conor Staines whose goal brought the home side back into the game. Kynog began to pile on the pressure with further shots on target from Blaine Treacy and Donal McGrath. with everything to play for kynog went in search of an equalizer which wasn't to be as time ran out .A great game of football played in a great spirit.
