Kynog United V Kilcullen

Kynog Utd 3 – 3 Kilcullen Sunday saw Kilcullen make the trip to Kynog and both teams served up an excellent match for the spectators who had braved the cold. The match opened with Kynog attacking from the off and pushing Kilcullen back, but it was Kilcullen who took the lead when Cormac Stopes ran on to a through ball before firing a powerful shot into the net. Kynog got themselves level almost immediately when Josh Harris curled a corner onto the post with the keeper beaten. Both teams created chances as the defences struggled on the slippery surface and it took a brave save from Kynog’s Shane O’Connor to prevent Kilcullen from extending their lead before Kynog drew level when an unfortunate Kilcullen defender turned the ball into his own net from a cross to take the teams into the break level.  Kilcullen started the second half strongly and with Adam Walsh driving them on, they took the lead through Cormac Stopes second goal. Kynog were under pressure and only some fine defending from Justin Reilly kept Kilcullen from extending their lead, but they could do nothing as Kilcullen scored a fine third goal through Hugh O Mahony. Kynog didn’t stop believing that they could get back into the match and with only a few minutes to go, they got a goal back when Josh Lee scored with a free-kick from the edge of the box. Kynog were well on top now and looking for the equaliser. They came very close when a Josh Harris shot beat the keeper only for a great headed goal-line clearance to keep it out. Kynog were not to be denied however, and got the equaliser when another free-kick was turned into the net with only seconds left on the clock to leave both teams level at the end of a pulsating encounter.
