 UNDER 14 MAJOR DIVISION

KYNOG  UNITED        1
SALLINS  CELTIC      2

Sallins Celtic came out on top in this evenly contested encounter in Kynog Park on Saturday morning.
The home team started well and almost opened the scoring in the 8th minute when a Shane Merriman pass found Conor Staines whose shot was well saved by David Callan in the Sallins goal. In midfield for the home team Adrian Moran and Martin Baneham were working tirelessly. The visitors opened the scoring in the 16th minute when a cross from the left hand side was turned in by Robbie Coughlan. Kynog responded with Conor Staines shooting narrowly wide on two occasions following incisive passes by Darren Carty and Adrian Moran. Jimmy Nevin at the heart of the Sallins defence was having an outstanding game. Kynog continued to enjoy most of the possession with the defence well marshalled by Jack Kenny and Cian Gilligan.
Kevin O Brien was introduced at half time for the home team and went on to give an assured display. Kynog equalised in the 42nd minute when a Martin Baneham shot from 25 yards found the bottom corner of the net. Sallins were looking dangerous on the break and retook the lead in the 48th minute when Robbie Coughlans shot from close range found the corner of the net. Kynog went in search of an equaliser with Jack Kenny and Shane Merriman both going close. Patrick Hudson was introduced for the home team but Kynog were unable to find the breakthrough.
Credit to both sets of players for the sporting manner in which the game was played. Best for Sallins were David Callan, Robbie Coughlan and Jimmy Nevin whilst for Kynog each player that wore the jersey can be proud of their display.
