Under 14 Match Report Kynog United V Newbridge Town

UNDER 14 MAJOR DIVISION

NEWBRIDGE TOWN      2
KYNOG  UTD              3

On a glorious sunny morning in Newbridge both sides served up a thoroughly entertaining game of football.  The visitors started the stronger with Conor Staines shooting narrowly wide after 6 minutes. The same player got on the end of a Gavin Crowe pass and found the corner of the net in the 10th minute. Newbridge responded with Jack Doyle prominent and both Jack Kenny and Cian Gilligan made some timely interceptions for Kynog. When Newbridge did find a way through they found Blaine Treacy difficult to beat. Newbridge began to win more possession in the midfield area and duly equalised in the 21st minute when a Ricky Caffery shot beat the Kynog keeper. The remainder of the half saw both teams with good possession but unable to create any clear chances.
The second half saw the home team doing most of the pressing in the early stages whilst Kynog were always threatening on the break with Adrian Moran Eamon Cox and Conor Staines. In the 47th minute a pass from Darren Carty found Conor Staines who fended off a couple of tackles before being tripped and a penalty was awarded. Jack Kenny stepped up and beat Cillian Smith in the Newbridge goal. Kynog increased their lead in the 53rd minute when a Shane Merriman pass found Conor Staines who finished calmly. Newbridge driven on by Sean Winning threw everything at Kynog but a combination of poor finishing and smart goalkeeping kept them out until the 65th minute when Jack Doyle scored direct from a free kick. The remaining minutes saw Gavin Crowe shoot narrowly wide for Kynog whilst the visitors defence held out. Newbridge were best served by Sean Winning and Jack Doyle while Kynog players deserving mention include Blaine Treacy Conor Staines and Gavin Crowe.
