Kynog United advanced to the next round of the cup with a thoroughly deserved victory against Athgarvan Villa. Kynog started the stronger with Gavin Crowe prominent on the left side of midfield and Patrick Hudson excelling on the qpposite flank. Kynog opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Adrian Moran rose to meet a Martin Baneham corner and his well placed header found the back of the net. Kynog almost doubled their advantage on 25 minutes when another Baneham corner found Ciaron Baselmans whose drive was well palmed away by the Athgarvan keeper. Shortly before the interval Athgarvan almost equalised as a player met the ball unchallenged but headed narrowly over the bar.
The second half saw the introduction of Eoin O Reilly . His composure along with his team mates saw several excellent passages of play as the visitors created chances but were unable to convert them. Athgarvan kept pressing and duly equalised in the 45th minute when a cross shot went beyond Blaine Treacy in the Kynog goal and just crossed the line before Luke Fitzsimons clearance. On 49 minutes a Gavin Crowe cross found Eoin O Reilly who set up Martin Baneham whose left foot strike found the back of the net.  Athgarvan equalised again in the 58th minute as the Kynog defence allowed time for an excellent strike to find the top corner. It is a credit to this group of players from Kynog that they continue to improve evident as they pushed forward in search of a winner. A Gavin Crowe free kick found Eamon Cox whose first time shot put Kynog in front again.
Athgarvan to their credit had a chance to equalise in the final minute but Blaine Treacy pulled off an excellent save diving high to his left.
All Kynog players played well but a special mention must go to Adrian Moran and Patrick Hudson.
