Women Today Allen, Prosperous, Athy
Thiscoursewillexplore the position of women in Ireland today. It willbetailoredaround the needs and interests of participants and mayincludethefollowing:


  • Gender Equality
  • Women and the Family
  • Women and Caring Work
  • Women and Paid Work
  • Women in the Media
  • Women and the Legal System


Accredited Courses


Women and Irish Society        FETAC Level 5
This module is designed to promote learner’s knowledge and understanding of a range of women’s experiences in Irish society, past and present. Learners will be engaged in a challenging and dynamic learning process and encouraged to develop their analytic skills.

Learners who complete this module will

  • Understand the history of the family from the Industrial Revolution to the present time
  • Appreciate the diversity and changing realities of women’s lives in C19 and C20 Ireland
  • Understand key principles of feminist thought
  • Appreciate the political, economic, social and cultural context of women’s lives.


The course isbeing held at Naas Adult Basic andCommunity Education Centre ,Jigginstown, Naas on Tuesday evenings from7.30 to 10pm and on two Saturdays per term to be negotiatedwith participants.  The courseis 60 hours long and will runbetween October 05 and May 06. 

National Certificate in Humanities

Between 2001and2004 we provided a National Certificate in Humanities(Community Educationand Development) in conjunction with Waterford Instituteof Technology.  The course was delivered locallyin Newbridge. There were 23 participants all of whomwere actively involved in their local communities in a paidor voluntary capacity.  The outreach programme comprised 12academic modulesand included a range of practical and learningsupports, including caring costs, travel expenses, access to guidanceand counselling support, study groups and a mentoring service.  Theaim of the programme was to provide local network members andcommunity activists with a unique opportunity to access and gain a 3rdlevel educational qualification whilst also developing and accreditingtheir skills, knowledge and experience as community workers.

10th International Women’s Day Celebration


This year is Network Kildare’s 10th Birthday andto celebrate the voluntary contribution of women to their communitieswe are organising a bus trip to An Tairseach (Dominican Farm andEcology Centre, Wicklow)

What is Network Kildare

Network Kildare was set up in 1995 to respond to the needs of locally based voluntary community education groups in County Kildare. It is managed by a voluntary committee who source grants from various government departments and other agencies to fund its activities.

Vision Statement

Network Kildare is an umbrella under which all adult and community education groups in the Co. Kildare can grow and develop in their quest for lifelong learning.

Mission Statement

To unify and encourage solidarity among the adult and community education groups in Kildare.

Aims and Objectives

Aim 1                     To provide support to our members

Objective A       To provide advice and information to members

Objective B       Research the needs of the member groups on an ongoing basis

Objective C    Represent our members on key local and national organisations

 

Aim 2                   To raise the profile of Community Education

Objective A      Working with key organisations, both statutory and voluntary

Objective B      Developing a relationship with the local media

 

Aim 3               To provide educational and training opportunities

Objective A     Plan and implement a range of opportunities in response to the need of

                           members

Objective B     Provide on going training for the management committee

Objective C   Source funding and accreditation where necessary

The Network can link you with the Community Education group nearest you.

 

 

What Network Kildare can do for your group?

The network can help your group source tutors, courses, funding, etc. All listed members receive invitations to all events and copies of our newsletter. Any group involved in community education can join the Network by contacting us. There is no cost involved.

 

 

Naas Adult English Scheme

We offer a free, confidential service for adults with reading and writing difficulties.

Our aim is to provide all adults with the opportunity to obtain or improve the skills of reading, writing and numeracy at their own pace, according to their individual needs and in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
