Introduction Partnership with Riverbank Who's Who in Crooked House

Contemporary Theatre

In addition to learning from the classics, we also focus on developing and presenting new writing for the stage. We present mainly British, Irish, American and European contemporary work of a particular kind.

The choice of productions is influenced by several factors, not least of which are:

  • A use of dialogue which we consider to be pared, tight and resonant

  • Significant possibilities for experimental and physical presentation

  • Provocative exploration of cultural and moral values

  • Lively narrative techniques

  • Potential to influence the expression and practice of social justice

  • The ability to discuss humanity on a scale which is wide and universal in character
Audiences in Ireland are very aware of the style of theatre developing abroad, especially in Britain, but don't get enough opportunities to see it in Ireland.
We are interested in presenting such work to the Irish public and also in developing Irish plays of this kind.
Handbag by Mark Ravenhill was given its Irish premiere in the Crypt Arts Centre in Jan 2000 and featured Patrick O' Toole (above) as Phil. (Original Image from publicity material).
