Timahoe and neighbouring communities would
like to wish Fr. Ramsbottom well. He is in our thoughts
and prayers.
Congratulations to Sarah Crowe
from Timahoe who made her confirmation in February.
Birthday greetings go to Mr.
Frank Fallon, Corduff; Laura Kelly, Timahoe; Cathal Walsh,
Derry; Claire Kelly, Timahoe; Mathew Brogan, Timahoe and
a special Happy First Birthday to Tilly Brogan, Timahoe.
Congratulations to Shauna and
Colm Hickson and family on the birth of their new daughter.
Shauna runs the Beauty Clinic in Donadea and hopes to return
to the Clinic in April. Best wishes from your friends in
Timahoe. Congratulations also go to Mark and Jane Mangan
and family, Kane's Pass on the birth of their new baby girl.
We say farewell to Lisa and Rory Lynch and
family of Kane's Pass who are moving back to Limerick. We
would like to wish them all they very best of luck.
ACTIVE AGE GROUP
2002 began on a high note for Timahoe Active
Age Group. The January Get-Together was marked by a full
attendance and warm New Year wishes were exchanged. Two
new ideas were introduced - a Sign-in Book and a Suggestion
Box. Plans for the coming year were unveiled and a good
supply of vitamins was recommended to sustain us through
these activities.
Mick Dunne & Andy Murphy settled themselves in a cosy nook
and the music began …. and what a selection. Their songs
brought us down memory lane, historical paths, romantic
avenues and traditional by-roads. Their extensive repertoire
spanned all ages and all tastes. They were a treat to listen
to and sing-along with. Thanks lads. The music ground to
a sudden halt when a surprise guest arrived. All mouths
formed perfect O's of astonishment. Eyes popped with shock
and eyebrows tickled the ceiling when this glamorous stranger
made a mad dash for Bill Kavanagh. The Hob rang with laughter
when "Thorny Rose" Clive Mooney revealed herself/himself!
The February Meeting was much calmer with a Table Quiz.
We are conserving our energies for our St. Patrick's day
Trip to view the Parade, enjoy the lunch and wind up with
music in Kelly's. This trip replaces the usual March Get-Together.
The next one will be held on the last Wed, of April, the
24th.
THORNY ROSE
Congratulations to the three brave young
men who volunteered to represent Timahoe in the 'Thorny
Rose" Competition, organised by Matt Browne in aid of Rehab.
Clive Mooney, Wayne Mitchell and James Kane were unveiled
in Kelly's, on Jan 16th amid thunderous applause, wolf whistles
and loud, ringing cheers. Clive had a trial run the previous
week, at our Active Age Group Meeting, so he was cool, suave
and sophisticated. James and Wayne stormed the Lounge...
no man within reach was safe from their many obvious charms.
The breath-taking final took place on 16th. Each Rose treated
us to a unique, never-to-be forgotten and never-to-be repeated
party piece! Clive Mooney was declared the winner and will
represent Kelly's and Timahoe at the Final, in Dowlings.
Good Luck, Clive.
PARENTING COURSE
We hope the 16 participants of the Spring
Parenting Course are enjoying their Wednesday sessions with
Anne Comerford and Mary Moore ( Kildare V.E.C.),held in
K.K.U. (Kelly's Kitchen University). Plans are being finalised
for a 6 week course for parents of teenagers who would like
support and guidelines to help them steer their teenage
children through this vulnerable stage. We have researched
the possibility of running this course and have applied
for a grant. We hope it will commence immediately after
Easter, on Mondays, from 8.00-10.00. Places are strictly
limited to 12. If you wish to reserve your place, please
contact Margaret (045-863508).
TABLE QUIZ
The February Table Quiz came round quickly
.It was held on Fri 22nd. Questions were compiled by "The
Quiz Queen" herself, Emily Cosgrove, and presented by another
of that royal family, Lynda. Repeated requests to start
the quiz earlier resulted in Question 1, Round 1 being asked
a little earlier, at 10.30. As usual, with Emily & Lynda
at the helm, it was a smooth journey from that first question
to the final one. The Cosgrove family has obliged us on
many occasions as Quiz presenters... Emily, Ger & Lynda
and, as always, this quiz was perfectly organised and presented.
The proceeds of the monthly Quiz and Raffle are in aid of
Timahoe Community House Building Fund.
As the last Friday in March is Good Friday, the Quiz will
be held on THURS. 28th. Come along and see who are
in the hot seat asking the questions!
QUIZ WILL DEFINITELY START AT 9.45 P.M. on THURSDAY 28th
MARCH. Please come early (or even on time!)
COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP
Weather permitting our Annual Clean-up
will be held on Sat. March 9th. Everyone and anyone who
is interested and available will be warmly welcomed. We
are meeting at Kelly's, at 11.00 a.m. and will then divide
into teams to tackle the black spots and the illegal dumping
in our area. Two skips are being provided by Kildare County
Council and we would appreciate as many adult hands as possible
to help us fill them.
LOCAL HEALTH CENTRE
Last month we mentioned our plans to lobby
for the re-opening of our local Health Centre, at Timahoe,
closed due to vandalism. Since then we have discovered that
RE-OPENING it would be an impossibility, as it no longer
exists. For reasons of safety, it had to be leveled. This
is a very real, very relevant example of how vandalism impacts
on ordinary people. Because of one thoughtless act, we have
lost local access to a doctor, dentist and district nurse.
COMMUNITY ALERT
Dont forget that it is up to all of us
to look out for the more vulnerable in our neighbourhood.
If you see something suspicious phone your local community
alert contact or Paddy Maher at 086 2582320.
