ACTIVE AGE GROUP OUTING

Seamus O'Neill, Prosperous, put his coach into gear at precisely 9.30 a.m., on Wednesday, 11th July and headed for Athlone, with 26 on board. Timahoe Active Age Group were off on their Summer Trip. After homemade scones and coffee in the Restaurant, we all enjoyed a guided tour of Locke's, in Kilbeggan.

Up and down stairs we went, viewing the workings of this famous distillery and tasting it's fine products. Jim Heffernan and Ger Kelly demonstrated their expertise in this area, when they won an impressive prize for correctly identifying samples, by taste alone. After a bit of a mystery tour, we located Lakeside Hotel, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch and leisurely after-dinner drinks. Our Skipper collected us then and 23 of our group ventured down the gangway for a cruise on Lough Ree. Jimmy Fox and Ger Kelly got into the spirt by donning Viking helmets and having a sword fight below deck. After that, it was onward and upward to Curraghboy, where Charlie, the owner of Derryglad Museum warmly welcomed us into his Aladin's Cave. Over 2,000 exhibits awaited us. Mollie Kelly was in her element identifying exhibits and tripping down Memory Lane.

When Charlie wound up the old gramaphone and played "Goodbye, Johnny Dear", all gathered round and joined in so enthusiastically, that Charlie had to wind it up again, for an encore. As we sat in "The Palace" enjoying "light refreshments", the group raised their glasses to the supporters of "Kelly's Heroes", our Active Age Group, whose generosity provided the total funding for our trip, and everyone. .EVERYONE.. unanimously agreed that it was a wonderful day.

It was 9.30 p.m. when we returned. Friends and relatives met us at the bus to welcome us home. In to Kelly's we trooped, to relish memories of the day and enjoy Betty Dolan's tasty sandwiches. The Athlone Trip will be a hard act to follow.., but we'll try!!! On Sat. 1st September, we're off to Wicklow to discover what treats lie in store for us in the "Garden of Ireland".

TIMAHOE FIELD DAY

July 2001 Bunting, music and the promise of sunshine set the scene for Timahoe's fourth annual Field Day, on Sun. 8th July. Motorists and pedestrians alike were safely steered to and from the venue by an efficient, professional and experienced Civil Defence team. Shrieks from sponge throwers, encouraging shouts for the young footballers, cheers for winners of the children's events, good-humoured haggling at the stalls, friendly hellos from neighbours and the honeyed tones of Colm Hickson combined to create a carnival atmosphere in the secluded, well-kept grounds of Timahoe N.S. The Field Day was a resounding success, as a fundraiser for our Community House Building Fund and, more importantly, as a family social event.

We acknowledge the support and co-operation of Fr. Ramsbottom, PP. and Seamus Lynch, Principal, in permitting us to use the school grounds. It was an ideal venue and contributed greatly to the overall success of the day. We greatly appreciate the generosity of our sponsors, listed below, the dedication of our Field Day Committee and the energy and enthusiasm of our helpers. However, without the support of the people in our community, the event would not have been successful.... So, from Timahoe Community Development Council, a big "Thank you" to all who came along on the day and well done to all the children who took part in the football and art competitions.

THANKS We would like to thank the following sponsors for their generosity which helped make the Timahoe Field Day such a success: Brady Meats; Changes Hair Studio; Choice Stores; Pat Cosgrove; C & U Newbridge; Declan CuIIen; Kit Dunne; Catherine Gormley; Gerry's Take-Away; Jack Mangan; Finn McCarthy; Doran's Nurseries; Sean Flannery; John Heffernan; Ger Kelly; Intel; L.A.
