Chernobyl Children
A group of 9 children ranging in ages
from 8 - 6 years stayed with host families in our community for three and a half weeks
this summer. Through the good-will and generosity of a large number of people, these
children visited the Zoo, Baldonell Aerodrome, had a fantastic trip on the barge in
Robertstown, went to Woodlands for Pitch & Putt, where they were then presented with
soft toys and minerals. They also went horse riding to Kill on two occasions and
were entertained for a day at Tiermohan Summer Camp. Lots of other activities were
also organised including a great day at Mondello. St. Kevin's Staplestown deserve a
special mention for allowing us to use the hall on numerous occasions for meetings, coffee
mornings etc. not least sponsoring the bouncing castle at the bar-b-que. Thank you
also to anyone we may have omitted to mention.
Clane / Chernobyl Thanks
The Clane / Chernobyl Link Group which
organised the children's visit, would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped to make
this visit such a success, from those who made financial donations, to those who donated
crisps, minerals etc. To superquinn, Naas for supplying burgers and sausages for the
farewell bar-b-que. Thanks also to those who offered to host a child, but due to
changing circumstances, on the part of both families or child could not do so in the end.
Maybe next year!!! Finally, although it was hard work, it was an experience
which the families involved, would not have missed and Monday morning the 10th August saw
a lot of tears shed at Shannon Airport as the children were departing for home.
Sincere thanks to everyone concerned.

Large Machines
Now that the season of reaping the harvest
is upon us, parents would ask farmers to pass on the messages to their tractors/machinery
drivers to drive with caution, as children and other road users use these roads which are
narrow. Let this harvest pass without any bad accidents.
