FIRE THREATENS GILLTOWN BOG

Two units of the Fire Brigade were called to bring a fire under control, on Gilltown Bog, on Holy Saturday last. The fire, which was fanned by a strong wind, spread quickly and threatened a shed containing a large quantity of Animal foodstuff. Thanks to the quick action of the firemen the nearby forest was saved from potential destruction. It is not known how the fire started.

ICE HOUSE FIRE

The Fire Brigade was also called, on Holy Saturday night, to quench a fire at Donadea Forest Park that threatened the Ice House. This fire was started maliciously. Timber was brought from a variety of places around the forest and brought into the Ice House, which was then set on fire. There was extensive smoke damage caused to the stonework.
