St. MOCHUA
HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The Society was formed in
1993 and is one of the largest and most progressive in County
Kildare. During those years the Society has held more than
50 talks and lectures on various topics of historical interest
in this general area. Over the years we have had many outings
to places of historical interest all over Ireland. In addition
the Timahoe Graveyard has been changed from being derelict
to its present well kept state. A plaque has been erected
to commemorate 1798. Also the Quaker Burial ground has been
cleaned up and a new boundary wall in stone has been built.
Contact has been established with the descendants of the
Timahoe Quaker Community in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Many more
talks and projects are planned in order to preserve the
history of the area. We plan more publications in the future
and have a full programme of events and outings already
published for this year. Our talks are always given on the
1St. Wednesday of the month in Kellys Lounge. You are invited
to join the Society and hopefully benefit from what we are
doing. The Annual subscription at present is 5 Euro. Please
contact Owen Denneny,(863 521) Eileen Fitzharris, (869288)
John Larkin (860837) Andy Flaherty (863534)or any member
of the Society.
