The character of Anna Evans emerged during our scriptwriting workshops
in the summer of 1998 and her creator, Wilma Warner O' Keeffe, developed
a monologue around her. Anna was staged in the Blue Room, George's
Street, Newbridge, was directed by Wilma and featured Anne Mekitarian
in the title role.
This monologue takes us through the life of an elderly woman who
reminisces about her relationship with her father, mother, young
lover and her sister. Anna reveals her story gradually, using the
delicate language of nursery rhyme, colour, half snatches of song
and poetry and blending it with robust humour and rhetorical questions.
