Four ramps two on either side of Glen Easton Shopping centre are to be provided within weeks. The work follows considerable concern expressed by residents in the neighboring estates of Glen Easton, Rinawade, Easton Mews, over the past few years. Funding for the work will come from Cllr Catherine Murphy's discretionary funds, the work involved will cost in the region of €20,000.

CANCELLED NIGHTLINK SERVICES MAY WRONG FOOT FOOTBALL FANS

A North Kildare Councillor, Catherine Murphy has predicted that many soccer supporters will find themselves without a late bus service next Wednesday, when Ireland meet Gerogia in the World Cup qualifier, in the 82,000 capacity Croke Park.

Loss of Weekday Night Link Bus Services to North Kildare very regrettable

Cllr Catherine Murphy has urged Dublin Bus to rethink the  withdrawal of the Nightlink service  between Monday and Friday  to North Kildare.     Following complaints made to her by constituents Cllr Murphy contacted the company both to complain and to seek the restoration or part restoration of the service.

67N served Lucan,  Leixlip and Celbridge 6 nights each week,  it will now be confined to Friday and Saturday nights.  The Monday to Thursday service operated at 12.30 and 2pm from the City Centre,  with more extensive weekend services.   The 66N will continue to operate on Friday and Saturday as before.      The Nightlink is the first North Kildare service to be affected by the cutback in Government subvention to the Company.   Cllr Murphy has been told by a Company Representative that talks are ongoing about further changes,  with particular attention being paid to poorly supported   off-peak services,   with a view to withdrawing same.

Cllr Murphy has urged the Company to rethink  the complete withdrawal of the Mon-Friday Nightlink,  with perhaps,  the reintroduction of the Thursday Service.   At a time when the purse strings are tight there is a real opportunity for Dublin Bus to attract new bus customers,  who may not be able to afford taxi services.   The nightlink is a popular service which has resulted in many people leaving the car at home rather than risking drinking and driving,   it is used by people who work evening shifts in town,  and also offers the opportunity to those who work weekends the opportunity to socialise during the week in the city.    The loss of this service will also become much more noticeable during the summer months when the level of usage is likely to be higher.

While the Nightlink is the first of the public transport services to be affected by the cut in the subvention to public transport,   it comes at a time when public transport could be seen as a viable option to households who may have to rethink the family finances, particularly with regards to the second car,  there may be a lost opportunity to attract new customers  on to public transport,  with the added benefit of reducing   the annual need to purchase carbon credits,  Cllr Murphy concludes.

2nd Phase of Bus Network review muse be implemented.

Cllr Catherine Murphy tabled a motion at the October meeting of Kildare County Council’s  Leixlip Area committee in which she sought an update on the bus network review.     The review was conducted by Dublin Bus on behalf of the Department of Transport in which they sought to establish the bus needs in the Greater Dublin Area.   Subsequent to the publication  in March 2006 additional buses were eventually  provided  15 of which were dedicated to the Lucan Road Corridor;  which includes Celbridge,  Leixlip,  Maynooth and Kilcock.

New Link road would relieve traffic in Leixlip & Celbridge

Cllr Catherine Murphy tabled a motion at the October meeting  of Kildare County Council,  Leixlip Area Committee in which she sought advance planning of a new link road between the Celbridge Road at Hewlett Packard and Leixlip/Celbridge West Interchange.     The announced intention by Diageo to seek planning permission for a new brewery at Leixlip opposite Hewlett Packard  together with the review of the Leixlip and Celbridge development  provides a timely opportunity to consider such a link road according to Murphy.

She has been told by the Council that the road matter will be considered in the context of a pending planning application by Diageo.

She stated there were many benefits should such a short stretch of road be provided including:
1. Potential reduction of traffic through Castletown Estate Leixlip.
2. Open up a potential new bus route.
3. Reduction of traffic on Main Street Celbridge from the Hazelhatch/Ardclough Road area’s.
4. Link to the proposed Collinstown Retail development.
5. Potential to provide infrastructure in parallel to new development should Diageo get planning permission.
