R obertstown Development Association, representing a small community of 200 families, took over the Hotel and Barges in Robertstown in order to revitalise a tourist initiative in the area. This has been started with locally raised funds and proceeds from tourism earnings, together with two FÁS schemes.
It is now being used as a restaurant, educational, heritage, tourism and community centre.
The Association operates Barge Tours on the Grand Canal including Corporate and Social Outings as well as Educational Tours, passing through 19th Centruy locks and the beautiful countryside of Kildare.
The Association also runs Educational Courses and the Robertstown Grand Canal Hotel has a fine Old Style Restaurant, Craft and Souvenir Shop.
