Over 100 guests attended the Athy Design Group's first exhibition and sale, 'Gathering Momentum', which took place on Tuesday 10th August in Athy Community Library. The exhibition and Sale which will run until Saturday 21st of August during normal Library opening hours, demonstrates a fusion of design talent from wood turning and Fashion Design to glassware, Pewter and fine art.
The group was formed as one of a number of initatives in progress of the Regenerating Athy & Rhyl Project. The guest speakers who attended the launch were Noel Scully, Cathaoirleach Athy Town Council, Des Page, Athy Town Manager, Dorian Marks, Regenerating Athy & Rhyl Project Coordinator and Jack Wall, TD who opened the event, all of whom expressed support through words of encouragement and enthusiasm to the Group.
Spokesperson for the group, Helen Tobin-Smith of the RAR Project stated that "there is a wealth of talent in the Athy area and we are pleased to be associated with the group to help them find new markets for their products". An immediate objective of the group is to raise awareness of its members. A plan to secure a location in the short term from where they can sell thier products directly to the public is high on the agenda. Already several locations have been identified and are being considered by the group. "We have spent considerable time in forming the group and drafting a framework for the group to operate. New members are welcome to contact us with a view to joining and further strengthening our network", said Ms Tobin-Smith. For further details you can contact Helen on 059 86 34758.
