In Athy there are numerous sporting and leisure facilities catering for all age groups. Athy Recently there have been two planning applications accepted by Athy Town Council for permission to construct quality hotel accomodation and associated leisure facilities in Athy.

The town will also soon benefit from an inland waterways marina situated close to the town centre. On completion it is considered that this facility will strongly enhance the appeal of the town to tourists and increase aquatic activity in the area.

Athy also has several amenities available for children. (A list of clubs and groups can be found on the Relaxing in Athy Section of the website). There is a playground and park located near the town centre with swings and slides.

There are also excellent conditions for those involved or wishing to become involved in sport. Athy has its own GAA and Rugby grounds with excellent carparking facilities.

There is also a Community Library also located in the Courthouse in Emily Square. Membership for children is free up to the age of 18. Opening hours are as follows: Tuesday 10am - 8pm; Wednesday 10am - 5pm; Thursday 10am - 8pm; Friday 10am - 5pm; Saturday 10am - 5pm; closed Mondays.
