Kildare County Council Launches When We Danced - a new dance publication

When We Danced Book Launch

When We Danced a new dance publication published by Kildare County Council’s Arts Service was launched on Sunday 30 March at a reception in NUI Maynooth. The publication documents in visuals and written word Kildare County Council’s extensive Dance Development Programme over the past ten years and its successful collaboration with the Laban Guild, an organisation promoting the work of Rudolf Laban, a major pioneer in the evolution of Modern Dance. The author, Louise Costelloe, received a Dance Criticism award in 2005 from the Laban Guild which led to this writing commission by Kildare County Council.

Anna Carlisle MBE, president of the Laban Guild launched the book during ‘Laban in Practice’, a weekend of Laban based dance workshops at NUI Maynooth. The weekend programme also included a lunchtime performance of Pieces of Elsewhere, a new work by Counterbalance, Ireland’s first integrated dance company, the screening of Shade a new dance film by Louise Costelloe and an awards ceremony for recent graduates of the Laban Guild’s Community Dance Leaders Course in Newbridge.

'Making Inroads: An Arts Development Plan for Kildare County Council 2006-2011’ is centred around strategic partnerships for the arts. The support of the Arts Council and the Laban Guild was fundamental to the success of the Dance Development Programme to date and Kildare County Council looks forward to further developing and extending the dance programme in the future.
