This is fourth (1999) annual report of Kildare Money Advice and Budgeting
Service Ltd. A core function of MABS is the provision of a free and independent
advice service to households with money problems. In 1999 the service
in Kildare had a 25 per cent increase in the number who made contact with
us. This increase reflects the positive image MABS is developing with
bodies such as the Society of St Vincent de Paul, the credit unions and
various referral agencies.
It is important to build on this success. During 1999 an important an
important objective of MABS was to promote awareness for the service as
well as to raise awareness of debt within the community and the services
available to tackle it. We are conscious however, that more has to be
done in this area: promotion of the service and community education are
crucial to the on-going success of MABS.
We are currently completing our plans to relocate our Maynooth office
to Kilcock. This should ensure greater privacy for our clients and improved
working conditions for our staff. Finally, as in any organisation, staff
and management play an important role. In Kildare MABS we have a very
professional and dedicated staff, a committed management committee and
the active co-operation of local, community and statutory bodies.
