WHAT ARE THE SAMARITANS?

The group started in 1953 when it was found that
befriending by ‘ordinary’ people was often more acceptable than professional counselling
to those thinking of taking their own lives. black bar
The idea spread quickly, and now there are
  • over 22,000 volunteers
  • in 180 branches
  • available by telephone 24 hours a day.

  • Absolute confidentiality
  • Non-interference
  • Accepting the caller’s own beliefs and standards (no preaching)
