I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our subscribers a Merry
Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year from everyone at the
Kildare Community Network
This year has been the most successful to date with half
a million visitors requesting 1.6 million pages from the network's server.
Next year should see these figures increase further and, with your support
and input, the network will continue to grow and represent the many different
communities of County Kildare.

Kildare County Development Board
Community Audit and Kildare Audit of Services

The Kildare County Development Board is undertaking an Audit of Services
and an Audit of Community Activity, in order to research current services
and developments within Kildare.
Kildare Audit of Services
Kildare County Development Board is carrying out an Audit of Services
provided in Co. Kildare. This Audit forms a central part of the groundwork
for the Strategy for Economic, Social and Cultural Development which will
be developed over the next 14 months. If you are a Public, Private or
Voluntary Agency or Organisation which provides a service to the general
public or a specific target group, just download the Kildare Audit of
Services database and Guidance Notes and return it by email to equinlivan@kildarecountycouncil.ie
Kildare Community Audit
As part of the groundwork for the Strategy and to assist in the development
of the Kildare Community & Voluntary Forum, they are also carrying out
an Audit of Community Activities in the County. This Audit will give them
a snapshot of community and voluntary activity within Kildare. If you
are a Community Group or Voluntary Association working for the development
of your local area, just download the Kildare Community Audit database
and Guidance Notes and return it by email to equinlivan@kildarecountycouncil.ie
County Kildare Tourism Task Force

The Co. Kildare Tourism Task Force is currently examining tourism policy
& development in the County for the period 2000 - 2006. You are invited
to make a submission.
It is expected that the Tourism Task Force will report in
late Spring 2001 and its conclusions will guide decisions on Tourism policy
and development in County Kildare up to the year 2006.
Organisations/individuals interested in making submissions to the Tourism
Task Force on any aspect of tourism in Kildare are invited to do so by
the end of January 2001.

Dublin-Kildare Area Outreach Services Providing Non-judgmental Advice
on Drugs Use and Safer Sex
Outreach was started in Ireland in the 1970's by a staff member of the
Anna Liffey Drugs Project to befriend drug users on O' Connell Street.
The Eastern Health Board (E.R.H.A) commenced outreach in 1988 in the HIV/AIDS
Service operating from Baggot Street Clinic which was known then as the
AIDS Resource Centre. Later as the Drug epidemic spread and the problems
with drug users not availing of services became apparent, it was decided
to target this group.
The role of the Outreach includes promoting awareness of HIV/AIDS, Drugs
and Sexual Health through education and information, supporting local
communities and individuals who are not currently in contact with services,
providing a wide variety of detoxification options as alternatives to
methadone.
Outreach provide Information and education on the following:
Drugs/Drug Treatment
Safer injecting techniques
Safer Sex
Sexually Transmitted Infections
Hepatitis
HIV/AIDS

Empower Initiative
Kildare County Enterprise Board

Empower.ie is an e-based initiative for small businesses
to be delivered by City and County Enterprise Boards on behalf of the
Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. The Government has allocated
a budget of £3 million to the initiative.
The Enterprise Boards will provide e-business services and
incentives to micro businesses including:- An awareness campaign, Technical
assistance grants, Grant assistance towards the development of a website,
Mentoring (one to one expert assistance will be provided to help selected
companies develop fully integrated I.T. plans and strategies) and Training
(short intensive group training programmes will be delivered over the
next twelve months).

Millennium Park, Naas

The Millennium Park near Naas has just been launched. It
is a huge development, costing about £400 million pounds, and will eventually
comprise over 2.5 million sq. ft of high quality office accommodation.
It will have the potential to employ over 10,000 people or more when it
is fully developed. The first of the new offices will be available for
letting mid 2001, and the first office is already prelet as the Headquarters
for the Health Authority.

Kildare Horse Development

The Kildare Horse Development Company produces a newsletter
every two months describing all recent equestrian activities in the county.
With information on the success of Kildare's Ted & Ruby Walsh in the Grand

Oxx in the English and Irish Derbys and The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe,
this newsletter and site are well worth visiting.
