Newbridge Author Wins Prize for Debut Book

Orla McAlinden launched her prizewinning short story collection The Accidental Wife last week.

Orla McAlinden, from Newbridge Co Kildare has won the Eludia Prize from Sowilo Press in Philadelphia with her first book, The Accidental Wife. The book was launched on Wednesday 21st september in Barker and Jones in Naas.

The stories follow the ups and downs of life for the McCann family in Omagh Co Tyrone over a 70 year period, set against the background of Northern Ireland's Troubles. Kildare author Martin Malone described the collection as "an exciting new voice " and Sue Leonard reviewed it as "superb.....Confident and stylish" in the Irish Examiner.
