Introduction to Construction (Employability Skills for Construction L3)

Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB) are delighted to announce that a new Introduction to Construction course will begin in the Further Education and Training Centre Kildare Town on the 04th October 2016. 

The purpose of the course is to equip the learner with the knowledge, competence and skills to develop a range of construction skills under supervision. The course is suitable for those who may be considering a career in the construction profession or who wish to obtain a qualification to build on prior learning experience. The course will focus on the practical and theoretical aspects of construction with literacy, computers and guidance support underpinning various elements of the course.

The course will run for 15 weeks, 3.5 days per week. All participants will be offered the opportunity to achieve a QQI major award in Employability Skills for Construction at level 3 on the National Framework of Qualifications. 

Participants will study the following;

·        Brick and Block Laying

·        Laying Kerbs, Flags and Paviors

·        Woodwork

·        Plastering

·        Tiling

·        Mathematics

·        Computer Literacy

·        Communications

·        Additional elements of the course include;

·        Safepass

·        Manual Handling

·        Abrasive Wheel Training

What are the entry requirements?

·        All candidates must be over 16 years of age.

·        The course is free to persons entitled to, or dependents of persons entitled to

o   A medical card;

o   An unemployment payment;

o   A means tested welfare payment;

o   A Family Income Supplement Payment;

o   Less than second level education;

·        All applicants will be considered on a case by case basis.

·        Candidates must attend an interview to determine their suitability for the programme.

·        Lifelong learning and prior knowledge will be taken into consideration.

·        Ideally an applicant will have their Junior Certificate or equivalent but this is not a pre-requisite.
