New car registrations in Ireland total 101,248 in the 1st half of 2016.

This is up 23.1% of the previous year totalling 82,261.

Statistics from MyVehicle.ie show that in the 1st half of 2016 there was a total of 4,132 new cars registered in County Kildare. This makes up 4.1% of total new registrations for the first half of 2016. These figures are up 639 vehicles compared to 2015 which saw a total of 3,493 cars being sold.

The analysis show that in the first two months of 2016 there was an improvement in car sales compared to 2015, up 38.3% in January from 1,346 cars to 1,861, 30.3% in February. But this figure declined in the latter months of March and May. June saw an increase in sales from 51 vehicles being registered in 2015 to 60 in 2016.

Hyundai topped the table in 2016 with a total of 647 cars being registered in Kildare, this is up from 479 cars in 2015.

Black followed by grey and silver were the favoured colours for the people of Kildare with 844 cars registered in the colour black, 816 for grey and 641 for silver cars. Hatchbacks were the most popular type of vehicle with 1,143 registered, up 6.8% from 2015.

Statistics show that the most loved petrol car in Kildare was the Hyundai i20 with 78 registrations in total for the 1st half of the year. The Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i10, Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio followed as the best selling cars.

The Hyundai Tucson came out on top for the Diesel cars with 301 being registered in the county in total. The Ford Focus, Kia Sportage, Skoda Octavia and Renault Kadjar were also deemed popular as the number is estimated at over 400 cars sold between them.

Commenting on these figures, MyVehicle.ie Managing director Justin Kavanagh says

“It’s extremely positive to see the increase in new car sales across every County throughout Ireland and hopefully this will continue in the second half of this year.”
