Athy Heritage Centre Receives Museum Accreditation

Museum Standards Programme - Heritage Council

The Athy Heritage Centre Museum has received confirmation from the Heritage Council that the Athy Centre has now achieved formal museum status on the prestigious Museum Standards Programme.

The local museum hosts a number of permanent and visiting exhibitions and theme events each year. In addition, the Polar theme annual Ernest Shackleton Autumn School takes place at the museum each October.

Cllr Mark Wall, Cathaoirleach of the Athy Municipal District (Kildare County Council), has congratulated the dedicated staff of the museum for their work in achieving this accolade that will allow for further development of the county's only accreditated museum. Representatives from the Museum will be presented with their award status at a special event over the coming weeks.

Athy Heritage Museum is located on Emily Square in Athy town centre - http://www.athyheritagecentre-museum.ie/
