Strong British trained team set for Tote Irish Cesarewitch

At The Curragh this Sunday, 11th October

There is a strong Britsh-trained presence in this Sunday’s Tote Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh for which the Brian Ellison-trained Seamour currently tops the weights and the four-year-old is one of 10 potential runners from Britain in this year’s renewal.

Classy dual purpose types Western Boy, Ted Veale and Silver Concorde were also among Tuesday’s acceptors for the two-mile contest.

Trainer Harry Rogers is looking forward to sending out Benkei who has already won three-times this season and was last seen when finishing a creditable sixth at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend.

“The horse seems in good form and we’re looking forward to Sunday with him,” Rogers said. “He’s an out an out stayer and I always thought the further he’d go the better he would be so Sunday’s trip should be ideal for him and as regards ground he seems to be very versatile. He’s probably better on just good ground but he goes on ground with a dig in it.”

There are also three listed contests up for decision on Sunday with Mick Halford’s Toscanini the highest rated in the Waterford Testimonial Stakes for the Defence Forces Trophy,  which also features the Eddie Lynam-trained trio of Byzantium, Fort Del Oro and Gathering Power.

Dermot Weld’s Zalfana may make her second racecourse appearance following her Curragh maiden win back in August as she is one of 19 to go forward for the Staffordstown Stud Stakes in which How High The Moon is also included.

Proceedings will draw to a close just in time for Ireland’s big Rugby World Cup game against France with live coverage of the game throughout the racecourse and in the Go Racing In Kildare Finale Stakes due off at 4.40pm John Oxx’s Sea Moon looks an interesting contender, while Jim Bolger has included Loch Garman and Morning Mix.

There will be great spectacle and pageantry throughout the afternoon from the Army, Navy and Air Corps with displays of current and vintage equipment, memorabilia and music as part of an Irish Defence Forces theme to promote the strong association between the Curragh and the Military

The Ireland v France World Cup rugby game will be shown on screens throughout the racecourse following the last race at 4.45pm and anyone wearing an Irish Rugby Jersey will gain free admission.

Evan Arkwright, Commercial Manager of the racecourse, commented:

“Horse Racing and Rugby are two of Ireland’s most successful sports and we are delighted to have the opportunity to promote both of them on the same day with a variety of initiatives to make the day a fun experience for everyone”
