Per Cent for Art Commissions in Co. Kildare schools

Applications invited by visual artists for Percent For Art Scheme.

Kildare County Council Arts Service, acting on behalf of three primary in Co Kildare, invite applications from Visual Artists to apply for Per Cent for Art commissions, associated with recent capital programmes for the Department for Education and Skills.

The schools are Newbridge Educate Together School and Scoil Bhride, Kilcullen and St. Anne's National School, Ardclough.

Commissions are for permanent visual art works and may include collaborative work practice. Applications that consider the physical school environment (the buildings and grounds, indoor and outdoor) as well as applications that directly engage the school community are welcome.

Scoil Bhride, Kilcullen is a co-educational primary school with 591 students on the edge of the Curragh with the River Liffey flowing through the town http://www.kilcullenns.org/

Newbridge Educate Together National School is multi-denominational, child-centred, co-educational and democratically run. They have an enrolment of over 300 children. http://www.netns.ie/

St Anne’s N.S. is a co-educational primary school with 269 pupils. It aims at promoting the full and harmonious development of all aspects of the pupil. http://stannesardclough.ie/

STAGE 1

  • A site visit for Scoil Bhride, Kilcullen will take place on Monday 13th April 2015 at 9.30am.

  • A site visit for Newbridge Educate Together School will take place on Monday 13th April 2015 at 11.30am

  • A site visit to St. Anne's National School, Ardclough will take place on Monday 13th April 2015 at 1.30pm.

(Please note that it is not compulsory to attend the site visits, but it is recommended)

Artists who wish to attend either/both site visits must register with Lucina Russell, lrussell@kildarecoco.ie

Artists are invited to submit an application with drawings and a letter outlining their interest and experience in the commissioning process, with CV and samples of work that may be relevant to work in a school environment.

STAGE 2

A selection panel in each school will shortlist a number of artists to develop detailed proposals. Depending on the nature of the proposal, artists may be required to attend a site visit or attend for interview. Artists who are shortlisted for Stage 2 for a school will receive an artists fee of € 200 to prepare a submission.

BUDGET

The budget for Newbridge Educate Together School is € 17, 956 (allowing €800 for 4 x €200 payments to artists at stage two from €18,756 budget)

The budget for Scoil Bhride, Kilcullen is € 36,200 (allowing €800 for 4 x €200 payments to artists at stage two from €37,000 budget)

It is envisaged that a series of artworks will be created for up to four locations in the school for this budget. 

It may be the case that the commission funding is split and awarded to more than one artist.

The budget for St. Anne's National School, Ardclough is €22,200. It is envisaged that a series of artworks will be created for a number of locations (which could include indoor and outdoor spaces) in the school for this budget.

CLOSING DATE 

Artists should submit their proposals no later than 12noon on Thursday 30th April 2015.

Applications should be sent in a sealed package with the title "Opportunities for Per Cent for Art Commissions in schools in Co Kildare" on the outside of the package.

Short listing for stage two will take place in May, according to individual schools schedules.

SELECTION PANEL

Overseen by Kildare County Council Arts Service, the selection panel for each school will consist of school staff and board of management. Depending on the nature of the commission, other specialists may be invited to sit on the selection panel.

STAGE I SUBMISSION

Artists should include a detailed proposal to include drawings, a budget breakdown, a CV and examples of relevant work. Samples of work may include photographs, publications, dvd, audio work, which should be clearly labelled. Applications will only be accepted in hard copy.

In order for applicants to be considered, they must meet the following criteria:

1. Applicants must have or be capable of obtaining a current valid tax clearance certificate 

2. Applicants must have or be capable of obtaining the following insurances

• Employers Liability Insurance 

• Public Liability Insurance

3. Applicants must demonstrate that they operate as an artist. Examples of at least 4 previous bodies of work must be submitted with the application. 

4. Applicants are willing to supply personal information for Garda Vetting screening as required

It is intended that all applications received will be retained for consideration by schools in Co Kildare who wish to avail of Per Cent for Art schemes 2015-2016. Therefore, applications will not be returned to artists. It is advised that copies of all material submitted are retained by the artist.
